Employment
The Great Ocean Road is a major employer of causal workers in the
hospitality industry over the summer season. The season starts in November
and goes till end of April with Christmas and January the peak.
People with trades in building industry can find work all year round.
Cafes, pubs and motels are main source of
employment requiring chefs, bar staff,
cleaners, kitchen hands,
waiters and waitresses.
Most hostels use causal staff some with paid positions others on a food and
accommodation deal. (contact individual hostels for more information
but usually require people for a minimum of a month).
Lorne & Apollo Bay probably have largest demand for out of town workers
however accommodation can be a problem in Lorne so check with local hostels
or employers for availability.
