Cape Otway & Otway Ranges
Cape Otway
The
Great Ocean Road heads inland after Apollo Bay through the rain
forest to Lavers Hill Princetown and the 12 Apostles. Located 222 km south west of Melbourne via the Great Ocean Road, Cape Otway and
the Cape Otway National Park are recognised as part of the most beautiful and
rugged area of the Great Ocean Road region.
Much of the district around Cape Otway is included in the Otway National
Park, which features rainforest and streams in the Otway Ranges, and extends
right down to the coast where a rugged coastline meets with pockets of sandy
beaches.
Camping and backpacker facilities available at Bimbi Park , its natural bush
setting will provide you with a unique experience. You can enjoy a horse ride or
walk through unspoilt bush and see Koalas and Kangaroos in the wild. Limited
camping also available in National park controlled camp areas.
Take a few side trips to Cape Otway Light Station, Blanket Bay and Parker Inlet with remote rugged coastline and abundance of wildlife including koalas and wallabies.
Otway Ranges
Fern gullies, rainforest, woodland and heath make this park a national
treasure. Swamp wallabies and ring-tailed possums are common.
The park offers camping, walking, fishing, canoeing and surfing.
The inland region has extensive rainforest drives and waterfalls and small
towns and hamlets.
The recently opened Great Ocean Walk starting at Apollo Bay is a 91 kilometre
walking trail that finishes at the 12 Apostles.
